This presentation will describe basic information about the characteristics and prevalence of trauma - relevant to the work of mental health peer specialists. Risk factors and protective factors will be reviewed so that peer supporters are better grounded in providing trauma-informed care in supporting recovery and resilience.

Learning Objectives:


Tommy Newcombe is the Executive Director of The Connection Project, a peer-run organization in Norfolk, Nebraska. He is a Certified Peer Support Specialist and an instructor of Intentional Peer Support. Mr. Newcombe is an Advanced Level WRAP Facilitator. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and is currently studying for his Master of Public Administration degree.

Tera Newcombe is a Certified Peer Support Specialist at the Women's Empowering Life Line in Norfolk, Nebraska. Mrs. Newcombe sits on the Board of Directors for The Connection Project. She has a bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences and is working towards a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling.
