Being an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic can feel overwhelming for a myriad of reasons. Professionals report increased and unique work demands, struggling to take care of oneself and others. The PEMSS model focuses on five areas (Physical, Emotional, Mental, Social and Spiritual) and implementation of direct self-care in these areas. This model will eradicate the challenge of identifying effective self-care behaviors so that one can maintain well-being in this uniquely stressful time.

Holly Sawyer, PhD, LPC, CAADC, NCC, has a Doctoral degree in higher education with 17 years of experience teaching and developing higher education courses. Sawyer is the CEO of Life First Therapy, her solo private practice and the Therapy Loft Collective, an online group private practice. She provides clinical supervision to recent graduates and professional consultation to professionals. Sawyer has been featured on Psych Central, Best Colleges, Bustle, Popsugar and more.

Valerie Daniel, PhD, LCSW, is a psychotherapist in private practice where she works with individuals and couples dealing with issues ranging from low self-esteem, anxiety, transition to recovery, and depression. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Delaware County Community College, where she teaches courses in the areas of social work, psychology, and addiction. Daniel finds time to give back to her profession as a clinical supervisor for master’s level social workers pursuing their LCSW.
