This is a one (1) contact hour training module that is self-paced and intended for Direct Care Workers in Assisted Living settings. We will define what a restraint is in the context of assisted living homes and describe some of the risks associated with restraint use. We will focus on residents with dementia because they are more likely to be restrained. We will discuss alternatives to restraints to address falls, wandering, and agitation which are common issues related to dementia. There are several videos and handouts as part of the presentation. We will also be providing a pre- and post-test mirroring the objectives as well as a short evaluation form.
