Training Overview Description

This training combines Part 1 and 2 of the Positive Approach to Care Workshops into one 4-hour training for individuals working in the senior health profession.

Part 1 - Normal vs. Not Normal Aging: Have you ever seen someone you know but can't remember their name, or walk into a room and forgotten why: we encounter many changes as we grow older -- including changes with our memory. In this informative and interactive workshop we will compare and contrast "normal" aging vs "not normal" aging, and learn about the changes that happen as dementia progresses.

Part 2 - GEMS: Using Skills That Make a Difference: "People, like gemstones, are precious and unique, with the right care and settings, they can shine!" Learn a new way to identify what someone experiencing dementia is capable of doing. This workshop will help you learn the GEMS and discover how to use this knowledge to improve everyday living, care tasks, and communication.
