It is no secret that the United States is facing an opioid epidemic. The number of individuals who are developing opioid use disorders is alarmingly increasing every day, and so is the number of overdose related deaths. This epidemic has called for urgent and innovative approaches to the treatment of opioid use disorders.
This webinar will introduce Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and the role of FDA approved medications to treat opioid use disorders. It will also discuss how MAT fits into substance abuse treatment and recovery, identify common challenges faced by MAT, discuss the benefits and drawbacks of working in MAT, and discuss the stigma associated with MAT.

Native of Bolivia and retired U.S. Navy veteran, Claudia has almost 20 years of experience in the Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse field. Her education includes a Bachelors and Masters degree in Psychology, an ABD in General Psychology, and she is currently working on her EdD in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in Behavioral Health. Claudia has been a certified substance abuse counselor since 2005 (CSAC, MAC). Claudia has worked in multiple areas of the Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse field, including child and adolescent inpatient and outpatient treatment, adult inpatient and outpatient treatment, detoxification, Assertive Community Treatments, and MAT.
