Training Overview Description

Representatives from the Alaska Alliance of Direct Support Professionals will share their thoughts on the challenges and opportunities of being a DSP today in Alaska.

This has not been an easy year to be a DSP – not that it is ever an easy job but COVID has taken a toll on the workforce. The people on this panel have been in the thick of it. Hear their stories and their thoughts about how to elevate DSPs across Alaska.

AADSP’s mission is to be the Voice of the Direct Support Professional Workforce in Alaska. Their vision: a professional direct support workforce that is highly respected and widely recognized for its essential impact on the lives of people with disabilities.

This presentation will offer food for thought for anyone who is or has been a DSP, supervises DSPs or relies on daily support for themselves or a family member.

Event-specific Details

The panel discussion will be delivered as a webinar using Zoom. Please prepare for the webinar prior to the day of the event. Zoom can be used on a PC or Mac, laptop, IPad, tablet or smart phone and requires an Internet connection, a microphone, and camera (most devices have a built-in mic and camera). Zoom must be downloaded the first time it is used on a device.

All registered participants will recieve the Zoom link information in an email prior to the event. Please confirm that the email associated with your user profile is correct and watch for an email from Support@aktclms.org.

Connect from your workstation (laptop or computer, Mac or PC). Download Zoom prior to the training day (https://zoom.us), or to test your audio and visual connection go to https://zoom.us/test. On the day of the training, click on the Zoom link emailed to you to connect to the meeting.

Connect from your smart phone. Locate and download the Zoom app.

Open the app and select Join. Enter the Meeting ID number. There is no “participant ID.” Recommend that you Join by Audio using the “Internet Audio” connection.
