Training Overview Description

This webinar offers the opportunity to enhance clinical, theoretical, and culturally sensitive skills to work with Latinos using a Gestalt approach. Participants will be presented with the core elements of the Gestalt theory, including the figure-and-ground element, the experiment, and the polarities (the ways in which Gestalt interprets resistance in the healing process). This webinar will deepen into the individuals’ beliefs, value systems, and emotional roots that are linked to the substance use disorder. Finally, this webinar will present the humanistic elements adopted by Gestalt, including congruency, positive unconditional regard, empathy, and acceptance as key ingredients to foster the relationship with Latino clients who suffer from a substance use disorder.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to illustrate understanding of the Gestalt theory foundational principals.
  • Participants will be able to describe the Gestalt approach to substance use disorders.
  • Participants will be able to utilize the Gestalt approach when collaborating with Latinos who suffer from a substance use disorder.

Intermediate level courses provide information that builds on knowledge practitioners with some experience already have. These courses focus on skill-building or adding knowledge, possibly following a brief overview of basic information, and involve using information in concrete situations and understanding the underlying structure of the material.

Who Should Attend

Addiction professionals, employee assistance professionals, social workers, mental health counselors, professional counselors, psychologists, and other helping professionals that are interested in learning about addiction-related matters.
