Training Overview Description

This PRE-RECORDED TRAINING is offered at a discounted price of $20.00 from the regular $40.00 cost. Original Training was presented on 10.27.20

As a therapist you carry an amazing toolbox for guiding your client towards wellness. Sometimes, even when everyone is working hard, your client may not get there. You may have tried different approaches, but you are not seeing progress towards the goals you have set. This is not because you have failed but may be because of the way the brain is working. Now what? Medication may be indicated. Practitioners and therapists often work together to assist our clients in reaching their goals. This presentation will provide you with information you may need to assist your client most effectively.

  • When to refer for pharmacotherapy
  • Classes of medication commonly prescribed for depression, anxiety, mood instability, insomnia, nightmares, and psychosis.
  • Intended actions and potential side effects of medications
  • Medication assisted treatment for substance use

Presenter. Cynthia Jones, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified. I began my career as a RN at Alaska Psychiatric Institute in 1977. Since then I have earned a BSN, then an MSN in psychiatric mental health nursing. While primarily working in community mental health clinics I also focused on education. As the coordinator for the psychiatric nurse practitioner program at UAA my goal was to increase the number of skilled psychiatric providers to help meet the needs of Alaskans experiencing psychiatric difficulties.
