This session is an introduction to the concept of disorganized attachment, as well as other manifestations of disrupted attachment. Some of the proposed etiologies of this form of attachment will be discussed, along with consideration of long term sequelae. The clinical relevance of this construct will also be addressed.

Arietta Slade, PhD is Professor of Clinical Child Psychology at the Yale Child Study Center. An internationally recognized theoretician, clinician, researcher, and teacher, she has written widely on the development of parental reflective functioning, the implications of attachment for child and adult psychotherapy, and relationship-based infant mental health practice. She is Co-Founder and Director of Training for Minding the Baby® (MTB), an evidence-based interdisciplinary reflective home visiting program for young families facing adversity. Dr. Slade is also an author and editor, and is currently writing a book on reflective parenting with her MTB colleagues (forthcoming, Guilford, 2022). She has also been in private practice for nearly 40 years, working with individuals of all ages.
