Using Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to Engage the Most Challenging Clients

Heard about solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) and wondering what it really is? Have you heard about SFBT and think it could never work with some of the more challenging diagnoses and conditions, such as schizophrenia, chronic addiction, and trauma? This is the webinar for you. This training offers an overview of what evidence-based SFBT is, how and why it works, and provides concrete tools you can begin using immediately. This class is taught by international trainer, consultant, and author, Teri Pichot. Pichot studied under Insoo Kim Berg and has developed and implemented programs that used solution-focused brief therapy with some of the most challenging populations including addiction, domestic violence, and chronic mental illness.

Learning Objectives

• Participants will be able to describe the difference between problem-solving and solution-building.

• Participants will be able to summarize what the research tells us about what causes change for clients.

• Participants will be able to identify three SFBT skills that they can immediately begin using with clients.

Content Level

Intermediate level courses provide information that builds on knowledge practitioners with some experience already have. These courses focus on skill-building or adding knowledge, possibly following a brief overview of basic information, and involve using information in concrete situations and understanding the underlying structure of the material.

CE Credits

To earn a CE Certificate for viewing this webinar, you must view the webinar in its entirety, complete the online evaluation, and pass the CE quiz.

1. Upon completing the webinar, click on the “Online CE Quiz” link in the grey box at the top to complete the online evaluation survey and CE quiz, and get your CE certificate. This link will be made available after the webinar takes place. NAADAC members will be prompted to register for the CE quiz for free, while non-members will be prompted to pay a processing fee to access the quiz.
2. A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the CE quiz and access your CE certificate. You have 10 opportunities to pass the quiz. If you are unable to pass the quiz in the allocated number of tries, then you must retake the course.
